Wellbeing

Wellbeing Commitment

At Harefield Primary School, we are committed to the wellbeing of our pupils, parents and staff. We believe that mental health and wellbeing are at the forefront of accessing education, occupations, good health & relationships. We endeavour to support all of our stakeholders to achieve this through a variety of provisions.

Some of the ways we support pupils

Pupils have access to daily mindful activities to support their mental health, in addition to PSHE lessons weekly, to discuss mental health, relationships, health, etc. Participation in the daily mile encourages exercise and has lots of benefits for children’s physical health, mental health and wellbeing, and their learning.

We provide emotional literacy support (ELSA) where necessary, which supports bereavement, relationships, anger management, anxiety, etc. Monday morning club for pupils who struggle to come back to school after the weekend. Additional transition between classes and schools.

We commission Educational Psychologist, who works with children and young people who are experiencing problems that hinder their successful learning and participation in school and other activities.

We also have access to an external provision Mental Health in Schools Team (MHST) who working alongside the Southampton CAMHS, to support the emotional wellbeing of children alongside Southampton’s schools and colleges. We can also support with CAMHS referrals.

Some of the ways we support parents/ carers

In addition to support with MHST and CAMHS referrals, we also have a fulltime Family Support Worker, who is available to support you with a wide range of issues you may be facing such as your child’s attendance, emotional well-being, housing, food banks, SCRATCH, etc. We also regularly update our website with parent groups, advice and support.

Some of the ways we support Staff

We have a Wellbeing Lead, who oversees the wellbeing in the school, through sharing mental health support and guidance for both pupils and staff, to regularly compiling, analysing and creating follow up actions from staff questionnaires on mental health and wellbeing.

Staff also have access, through Hamwic Education Trust, to HealthAssured, the UK and Ireland’s largest independent and award-winning employee assistance programme (EAP) provider. HealthAssured offers 24/7, 365 to give compassionate support for staff through a counselling service, Trauma Management Services and Wellbeing support through workshops and training.
