We are a Rights Respecting School
We are currently a Silver "Rights Respecting School" working hard towards our Gold award. Children’s rights are at the heart of our school, and we take our children's views seriously. The children learn about rights, through an ethos of rights and are learning how they can get involved in local and global issues.” The school has had many “rights days” where they have learnt about democracy, dignity, equity and equality, as well as global citizenship. The pupils are currently taking part in Outright – a nationwide children’s rights campaign organised by UNICEF UK. It’s one of hundreds of schools and organisations across the country who are highlighting the powerful voices of children and young people and encouraging decision makers to listen.
Our local MP Darren Paffey recently visited our Pupil Voice Group as well as our Breakfast club provision. Through the Outright campaign, the children have been learning about food poverty and what we can do about it. They have visited local food banks and were able to share this action and learning with MP Darren Paffey. They also discussed breakfast club provision. MP Darren Paffey said “It was such a pleasure to meet such bright and enthusiastic young campaigners. I was really impressed by the work they’re doing and their confidence in talking about children’s rights. The school has shown these children that their voice matters and it was great to help explain a bit about the political and democratic process and answer questions about what I do as their MP.”
The Daily Echo published a newspaper article about our MP visit!
