Fundraising and Community work
COMMUNITY LINKS AND FUNDRAISING
In today’s society, it is more important than ever for children to have a positive attitude toward our friends in the neighborhood and community helpers. Teaching our children to see policemen, firefighters or the local librarian as friends can dramatically change how they view these figures in the future. We are working closely to develop links with the local Community and work with other schools to support our community mission.
Lead by Example!
Your children are going to follow your lead. Whenever you encounter a community helper, make sure your attitude is positive so that theirs will be too. Say hello to policemen when you pass them on the street or in the store. Wave and smile to firefighters or ambulance drivers when you are in the car. Remember to thank your postman each time you see them – maybe even give them a small holiday card if it’s the same person every day! Rather than showing fear or hesitation for doctors and dentists, emphasize how much better they make us feel. These little acts add up in a BIG way.
The Importance of Cultural Understanding
In a world that is becoming increasingly small, cultural understanding is important. With an increase in mobility, as well as technology, we are far more likely to come in contact with people of different cultural backgrounds than our grandparents were. As a result, it is important to be mindful of other cultures, and to help our children learn how to interact in a constructive manner. Many misunderstandings in the world could be avoided if we took the time to understand viewpoints and cultures other than our own.
On this page we will update you with how we have supported our local, national and global community through our work and fundraising initiatives.
Food Donations and Family Support
The past school year and this current academic year have been very different to anything we have ever been used to but we are so proud of how well all the children have coped with the changes to their learning.
Every year the staff choose a charity that we would like to support. This year, in light of recent events and announcements, we would like to support the Harefield community. We will be creating Christmas hampers to give to our families who are in most need. We will be collecting tins, packets of dry food, soft drinks, etc (all within use by dates) so that we can help to relieve some of the worries our families might be experiencing as the winter lockdown continues.
We will be aiming to create as many hampers as possible to provide support for those most in need.
