Roots & Breaktime Clubs
Unstructured times can be tricky for some children and so we have begun to develop opportunities for support for key children during breaktime and lunchtime.
During breaktime Mrs Marsh or Mrs Ellison run Treetops club from the Treetops base. This is an opportunity for specially invited children to access games and support about any classroom or friendship issues from a knowledgeable ELSA. We have found that this has helped anxious children to feel more secure, knowing that there is a safe space to go to, and has avoided some playground issues by providing intervention before the event.
Roots club is run from the cookery room by Mrs Vanhear and Mrs Hickman. Mrs Hickman will meet specially invited children in the lunch hall from 12:00 to support with eating and trying new foods. Children will then meet Mrs Vanhear from 12:30 in the cookery room to play with a variety of toys and games. This is another opportunity for specially invited children, who either find the playground overwhelming or may struggle with friendships, to have a safe space to go to and develop social skills and self esteem.
If you feel that your child would benefit from this kind of support, please speak to Mrs Ottaway in the first instance.
